It was definitely a "full circle" to be returning back to Halifax Harbour today on day 9; the same location we visited on the morning of day 1.
We arrived with just a short time to purchase some food and last minute souvenirs before catching our Tall Ship Silva Pirate Cruise. The cruise was short at just an hour but it traveled the Halifax Harbour and we saw some buildings that we hadn't seen last week on the Harbour Hopper. The cruise began with the kids involved in helping to hoist the sails; there was also knot tying, a treasure hunt, pirate dress up and the firing of a canon while we were on board.
Following the pirate cruise, we traveled up to the Halifax Citadel to participate in a one hour tour of the fort. Our interpreter was amazing; you could tell he was totally into his job! He arranged for the girls to help in tracking down an enemy spy throughout our tour of the fort. It totally kept them all engaged in the learning of Canada's history and our tour. We toured the dungeons, the school house, dressed up in period clothing, and the World War 1 trench. Afterwards, we completed the junior explorer program at the citadel which earned the girls a second National Parks dog tag.
After the Citadel, we left for some last minute shopping at the Halifax Mall. The girls were quite excited!
Finally, we headed to the Chocolate Lake Rec Centre to meet up with the 2nd Halifax South Girl Guides. They had ordered in pizzas and prepared other salads, brought drinks, dessert, etc. for us to partake in. We exchanged traders and sang a number of songs together. It was an enjoyable way to end our trip!
Tonight, we've been at the hotel packing everything up for our early wake-up call tomorrow morning! Only one sleep left...
And, here's the pictures of our final goodbye with Bus Driver Brad...
And our very last group picture... in the arrival wing of the Edmonton International Airport just prior to greeting all of our loved ones post-trip!
As Guiders, we were so fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to Canada's Maritime provinces with this phenomenal group of girls! They all were so incredibly well behaved, polite, kind, excited, and grateful for the numerous experiences we had. Everywhere we traveled, we received such positive feedback from everyone about the girls. They were the best representatives of Girl Guides of Canada. Thanks for the memories girls! It truly was a trip of a lifetime!
